Este princípio tem orientado o trabalho do nosso escritório BRENNE ARCHITEKTEN ao longo de mais de 40 anos. O enfoque do nosso trabalho abrange as seguintes áreas:

• Reabilitação de edifícios Modernistas e do Moderno do pós-guerra, utilizando princípios de conservação e de tecnologia de eficiência energética para criar uma estratégia de política urbana sustentável, 
• Revelação do potencial de desenvolvimento de monumentos arquitetónicos classificados,
• Construção em contextos preexistentes.

Desenvolvemos conceitos sustentáveis para restaurar o caráter autêntico original dos edifícios com o mínimo de alterações na estrutura histórica e, ao mesmo tempo, utilizamos métodos de construção novos e inovadores para adequar os edifícios aos atuais padrões de eficiência estrutural, técnica e energética.

Para nós, a conservação de monumentos não significa congelar o tempo – procuramos criar um novo futuro para o monumento, considerando o seu contexto socio-cultural, e começando por estudar cuidadosamente o existente e respeitosamente aceitando a sua história.

O nosso portfolio contempla a intervenção em edifícios de quase todas as épocas. Inclui intervenções em edifícios ícone do Modernimo como o edifício da Bauhaus e a Casa dos Mestres Muche/Schlemm de Walter Gropius, em Dessau, a Former Federal School of the German trade unions em Bernau, de Hannes Mayer e diferentes edifícios em Berlim como o Museu Histórico Alemão, a Academia das Artes e os conjuntos modernos de habitação dos anos de 1920. Em 2008, seis destes conjuntos habitacionais foram classificados como Património Mundial pela UNESCO – uma conquista que resultou de 15 anos de trabalhos de conservação por iniciativa do nosso escritório, à data, Architekturwerkstatt Pitz-Brenne, em cooperação com Helge Pitz.

Estudamos cada obra de arquitetura em detalhe – no planeamento e implementação dos seus princípios de reabilitação, no levantamento histórico dos edifícios, na criação de estratégias de desenvolvimento ou de alteração de uso e no projeto de novos edifícios.

O nosso potencial reside na numa abordagem interdisciplinar e na experiência da nossa equipa altamente qualificada, constituída por 30 membros, arquitetos, arquitetos de interiores, historiadores de arte, investigadores da área da construção e especialistas em reabilitação.

This guiding principle has been at the forefront in the work of our office BRENNE ARCHITEKTEN for more than 40 years. The main focus of our work covers the following areas: 
• Refurbishment of buildings from the Modernist and post-war Modernist eras using conservation principles and energy-efficient technology to provide a resource for a sustainable urban policy, 
• Realising the development potential of listed architectural monuments, 
• Building within existing contexts. 

We develop sustainable concepts to restore the authentic original character of buildings with the minimum of changes to the historical building fabric, and at the same time we use new and innovative building methods to bring the buildings into line with modern structural, technical, and energy efficiency standards. For us, monument conservation does not mean conserving time – our ambition is to create a new future for the architectural monument taking into account its socio-cultural context, and we start by carefully studying the existing structures and respectfully accepting their history.
Our portfolio covers buildings from almost all epochs. It includes icons of Modernism such as the Bauhaus building and the Muche/Schlemmer Master House by Walter Gropius in Dessau, the former Federal School of the German trade unions in  Bernau by Hannes Meyer, and buildings in Berlin such as the German Historical Museum, the Academy of the Arts and the Berlin Modernist Housing Estates of the 1920s. In 2008, six of these Housing Estates were listed as UNESCO World Heritage buildings – a success which resulted from 15 years of conservation work at the initiative of our office, which was known at the time as the Architekturwerkstatt Pitz-Brenne in cooperation with Helge Pitz.
We study every work of architecture in detail – in the planning and implementation of monument restoration concepts, in historical building surveys, in the creation of strategies for development or changes of use, and in new building projects. 
Our strength lies in our inter-disciplinary approach and in the expertise of our highly qualified team of 30 staff members which is made up of architects, interior architects, art historians, construction researchers, and restoration experts.
